===========================

GMail from Google, has a great way of showing emails. Emails are gathered together in conversations where GMail shrinks the parts you've read and hides the bits that are repeated. Once you get used to this way of working with emails, it's hard to go back. GMate Mail gives you all of that, but with that extra iPhone touch.

Warning! Useless app. UPDATED JUNE 2010

:
UPDATED REVIEW, JUNE 2010
Ok. I decided to try this again almost a year later. I installed it once again and I have come to this conclusion: The only thing that's really different is the price, $3 more expensive than when I bought it originally.

This app is no more than a web app really. You can still browse to gmail on your iToy and get the same functionality, except for the templates. The templates are fine and may be useful to some people in some situations, but they are not worth paying $5 for. Also, the loading time is longer than if I use Mobile Safari to go to gmail. I cannot reccomend this app as it is. I apologize to the developer, but $5 is too expensive. I feel that tuis should be a free app for those who wish to use it. Even at free, I would not be using this app, choosing instead to use Mobile Safari.

ORIGINAL REVIEW, LATE 2009

I don't usually write negative reviews but on this case you must be warned. This app offers you nothing that the actual mobile gmail webpage offers. You can't even read your email offline. I believe this must have been a nice workaround before gmail got the mobile version working nicely but it is now redundant. I had thought this app to be like the regular mail app only with the threaded view enabled. Instead it was just a buggy skin (spacebar sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, scrolling while typing acts strangely) on top of google's mobile mail app. This was a total waste of my 2 bucks and really this app should not be in the store anymore. Be warned! Your money is wasted here. Basically I just bought the developer a cup of coffee with my $2.00. Wish I could be more positive, but this app is just not worth it. Sorry developer, bad form, bad form.

And to those who are praising the label feature, this is available on Gmail's mobile app already. In fact, the features that are being lauded in this "app" are in the mobile gmail app already. I suppose multiple accounts is one thing you could gripe about, but I have multiple acounts that are all forwarded to 1 central gmail account. From that ONE account I can respond as if I were writing from any of my seperate accounts and mo one need ever know. The praises for this app are quite confusing. It's almost like saying "hey look, this guy invented this handheld metal contraption that has 2 prongs on the end that you can use to hold and grab you food with! And you can cut your food too because the knife foes through the space in the prongs." Wait, you mean like a fork? "No this is better!" No, it's kinda the same thing, idiot. Hey, if the shoe fits, wear it. This app? Do not buy. You have been warned.

$4.99 is $4.99 too much

:
Slower than a seven year itch.

The templates - if they worked - are simply drafts that can be accessed from the mailbox menu in the native email app for free.

4/5 stars

Ok except

:
Works pretty good except custom templates which was my main reason for purchasing. Wrote developer who promptly replied asking for more informaton which I sent but have not heard back again. Five stars from me if custom templates would work.
UPDATE
Developer got back to me last night requesting more info. Says I am only case he has heard having an issue with custom templates. Appreciate getting back to me. Updating to 4 stars.
